I’m riding to raise money to fight cancer along with Team LIVESTRONG of Cycle Folsom. Donate, and you’ll get link to your site! I’m also logging my cycling miles up to the day of the challenge in this post below. I hope you’ll help me raise some money to fight cancer in the process.
The goal is to raise awareness and support for the 28 million people living with cancer around the world. I have close friends fighting this disease. I personally know what it’s like to live with an unknown condition, and I want to show support by kicking out the miles.
The Davis LIVESTRONG Challenge is on July 10, 2011. I’ve been training, often with fellow Cycle Folsom team members. Many of us will be riding the 105-mile route (from Davis, CA to Lake Berryessa and back). We’ve been putting miles in on the bike in preparation. Now it’s time to ask for your support.
Please Donate:
EVERY dollar helps and counts – $5, $10, $25. Below is my fundraising page:
http://davis2011.livestrong.org/danalookadoo
I hope to raise $500 as a minimum. The goal of the Davis Challenge is to raise $1 million. Who will benefit?
- Hospitals
- Cancer centers
- University and community-based organizations
- Cancer patients, survivors, and their families!
Donate For Links
I have to throw some SEO into this mix… (Heck, if you see me riding with headphones, I’m probably listening to a podcast from WebmasterRadio.fm.)
Those who donate will get a nofollow link to the site of their choice with their desired anchor text. If you don’t know what that means, I’ll link back to you as a way of saying “thank you for the donation!”
- Donate here: http://davis2011.livestrong.org/danalookadoo
- Return to this page, and leave your website address (link) in the comments.
- I’ll formally thank you online after the event. If you prefer to remain anonymous, that’s OK, too.
Logging Training Miles
I got in the habit of logging training miles during May as part of Cycle Folsom’s participation in May Is Bike Month – a competition in the Sacramento region. I committed to riding as part of Team LIVESTRONG just before that. I’ll log my training miles in preparation of the Davis fundraising event below:
| Date | Time on the Bike | Miles | Total Miles |
| May 2011 | A lot | 927 | 927 |
| June 2 | 2:06 | 38 | 965 |
| June 3 | 2:01 | 30 | 995 |
| June 5 | 3:37 | 57 | 1,052 |
| June 11 | 2:02 | 30 | 1,082 |
| June 12 | 4:31 | 76 | 1,158 |
| June 14 | 2:17 | 34 | 1,192 |
| June 16 | 2:08 | 38 | 1,230 |
| June 17 | 1:30 | 20 | 1,250 |
| June 18 | 5:02 | 78 | 1,328 |
| June 20 | 0:48 | 13 | 1,341 |
| June 21 | 2:01 | 29 | 1,370 |
| June 22 | 1:26 | 21 | 1,391 |
| June 23 | 2:10 | 39 | 1,430 |
| June 25 | 5:48 | 102 | 1,532 |
| June 26 | 2:28 | 39 | 1,571 |
| June 29 | 2:06 | 30 | 1,601 |
| June 30 | 1:15 | 17 | 1,618 |
| July 02 | 3:48 | 60 | 1,678 |
| July 03 | 3:46 | 55 | 1,733 |
| July 05 | 1:39 | 23 | 1,756 |
| July 06 | 1:45 | 27 | 1,783 |
| July 07 | 1:58 | 28 | 1,811 |
| July 09 | 1:50 | 26 | 1,837 |
| July 10: LIVESTRONG | 5:45 | 106 | 1,943 |
I’ll updated it with each ride through July 10. (Training falters the week of June 6 – off the bike and at SMX Advanced, a search marketing conference in Seattle.) Stay tuned, however, and watch the miles pile on (I hope) in preparation for the Davis LIVESTRONG Challenge.
Please share your story if you have been touched by cancer or know someone who has.

Good luck Dana.
My better half just ran a half marathon in Halifax Nova Scotia with Team in Training to raise money to help find a cure to leukemia and lymphoma – she raised aver $4000 in only a couple of months. She’s just started training for a full marathon in San Fransisco with a goal of $6000.
I see how much work goes into preparing for these events, so I wish you the best of luck!
Matthew, Team in Training in Nova Scotia! How super cool. One thing we have in common all over the world is a desire to give of ourselves to help others. Thanks for the encouragement!
LIVESTRONG Dana!
Last summer (2010) my wife & I rode RAGBRAI with the LIVESTRONG team. I decided to join up to support LIVESTRONG after defeating testicular cancer. Just recently my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer so I’m preparing for another LIVESTRONG even later this summer @ Stone Mountain, GA.
Kick Cancer’s Ass!
RAGBRAI?! That’s very impressive. Now I’m thinking… “Should I? Could I? Would I?” for next year. Great job!
I’m in – good luck, Dana!
Pete, thank you very much! I was just wondering how many more miles I could get in if it wasn’t for these search conferences…
Appreciate your support!
Nice to find local people on twitter in the same field!
Donation sent.
Thank you, Todd, for your support. Hope to meet up at some time and talk SEO shop. There’s a huge parallel with cycling. We all want to podium!
Big ups Dana! I’ll be with you in spirit. Team 28!
Steve
PS. When are you getting these Yo Yo SEO jerseys together?!
Steve, You are the one who put the bug in my to design Yo! Yo! SEO jerseys. When I get my bike repainted and branded, this year, jersey design will be next. Thanks for the encouragement!
This is awesome Dana! I ran the Nashville half marathon a few months ago for charity as well, but I can’t imagine 5-6 hours on a bike! That’s insane!
Best of luck to you, and let us know how it goes!
Alison, thank you soooo very much for the donation and the support. Belated congrats on that half marathon. I bought a pair of sport socks recently that say, “13.1″ on the cuff. I cannot imagine running that far, so I shall think of you and your charity efforts while wearing them – on the bike!
I’ll definitely let you know how the ride goes, which will probably be 6.5 hours in the saddle for that distance and terrain. It’s all about having good shorts and chamois cream!
You are planning to ride *and* you are logging your miles before the event. You don’t do anything half-way, do you?
Thank you, Dana, for giving this cause your time and effort. Have a great time riding. I will be rooting for you.
Oh, Lyena! It’s funny how logging miles serves as an accountability to ride more and stay with the training. The training in May and June have resulted in discipline across different areas of life that I didn’t imagine as outcomes. It’s been quite rewarding.
Thanks so very much for the donation! I feel even more motivated now with your cheering!
